Blackpool proved it was back in the big time as superstar Robbie Williams switched on the town's world famous 2010 Illuminations.

Robbie dropped into the resort on Friday 3rd September with his wife Ayda to flick the switch, other stars performing on the night included Russell Watson, Olly Murs, The Wanted, Gabriella Cilmi, Alesha Dixon and Bond.

The Illuminations shine for 66 nights until Sunday 7th November.

The World Firework Championships are set to be rolled into one explosive weekend in 2010.  This will be billed as a Champion of Champions extravaganza, featuring winners from previous festivals, the countries are Taiwan, France and Canada.  The dates are 10th, 11th and 12th September, a week after the Illuminations are switched on.  The event will also be in a new location between Central and South Piers, where there is space on the new promenade for spectators to gather and enjoy the show.

It is also the weekend that the Tour of Britain is in town.
